GROUP 2 LICENCE MEDICAL (HGV)

If you are looking to apply or renew a Group 2 bus or lorry licence you will need to have a medical examination first to assess your fitness to drive. Drive Safe Medicals provides low-cost appointments in comparison to your GP, we also provide flexible appointments during the evening and the weekends to suit your needs.

APPLY FOR A D4 MEDICAL EXAMINATION:

  • If you are applying for a Group 2 bus or lorry licence for the first time
  • If you are applying to renew your Group 2 entitlement at 45
  • If you are aged between 45 and 65, a new D4 will be required every 5 years until you are 65
  • If you are aged 65 and more, a new D4 will be required every year
  • If you are applying for a new Group 2 provisional licence and a D4 has not been submitted in the last 12 months
  • If you are a NI or EU or EEA driving licence holder whose authority to drive Group 2 in the UK has expired
  • If you are under 70 and hold a medically restricted car licence (licenced before 1 January 1997) and wish to apply for C1 or C1/D1 entitlement
  • If you are 70 and still need C1 and D1 entitlement, you will need to have a D4 every 3 years

WHO FILLS IN THE D4 MEDICAL EXAMINATION?

All medical examinations are conducted by highly skilled and competent GMC registered Doctors.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY ASSESSMENT?

The doctor carrying out the examination will ask you a series of questions about your health including your past medical history, alcohol, and smoking history. The medical examination consists of a vision assessment and a blood pressure check. The appointment usually lasts 10-15 minutes; however, this depends on your medical history.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE MADE A BOOKING?

Once you have successfully booked and paid for your appointment. You will be sent a confirmation email of the details of the location, date,
and time of the appointment, please read these carefully.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING THE APPOINTMENT?

  1. D4 Medicals Form - Please fill in the grey section on page 1 of your form (left hand side) ‘Your details’ along with your name and date
    of birth at the foot of all other pages on the D4 form
  2. Photo ID – Driving Licence/Passport
  3. Your driving glasses and your glasses prescription if you wear glasses (not contact lenses) to meet the eyesight standard needed for driving
  4. Your medication prescription
