TAXI DRIVER MEDICAL
If you are thinking about applying for a private hire vehicle or a hackney carriage licence, you will need to pass a taxi driver medical assessment before you apply.
The medical assessment is carried out by one of our GMC registered Doctors
Depending on the council you will be applying to, the doctor will ask you a series of health-related questions, assess your vision and check your blood pressure. This is to determine whether you meet the standards to drive a private hire or hackney carriage. The doctor will inform you of your result at your appointment.

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING TO YOUR APPOINTMENT:
- The relevant council medical form
- Identification documents – Driving licence, Passport, one utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, water) or bank statement
- Your driving glasses and your glasses prescription if you wear glasses (not contact lenses) to meet the eyesight standard needed for driving
- Your medication prescription
- Your medical records
